Five Tips for Safer Pet Grooming
Pet grooming is strongly associated solely with improving the appearance of your dog or cat. But other grooming benefits include early detection of disease, parasite control, better hygiene and improvement to your bond with your dog or cat. As January is National Bath month, Petrendologist Charlotte Reed and host of the syndicated radio show, “The Pet Buzz”, is joining us to sharing her pet grooming tips and trick but also how to groom your dog and/or cat safely.
Safety Tip 1:
Reduce the anxiety of the bathing experience
71 % of dogs have behavior issues that can be induced by stress. Keep stress to a minimum by reducing your dog’s anxiety and possibly avoiding bathing accidents. Before getting your groom on, take your dog for a long walk and give him a Triple Action Calming Sniffer Chew which is an effective behavior solution that helps dogs stay focused and calm. Let your pooch sniff – the patented pheromone on the outside for quick-acting results and then, let him chew- the proprietary blend on the inside providing long-lasting calming benefits. Calming Chews are available on Tevrapet.com and Amazon.com
Safety Tip 2:
Time to tell
Bath your dog or cat once a month or when that unique pet smell appears. Use a natural shampoo to keep your dog or cat’s cleaning skin and coat in good condition. Do not use a human shampoo product on dogs/cats because the different pH of the human product can disrupt the acid mantle, leaving your dog or cat vulnerable to parasites, viruses, and bacteria. It also makes his or her skin feel dry and flaky, which can lead to repeated scratching and abrasions, making it easy for bacteria to invade. Additionally, do not bath your dog or cat with dishwashing soap, even if animals are on the bottle. The only exception is if your dog/cat has experienced a natural disaster like a hurricane or mudslide and his or her coat needs to be decontaminated. Consider Epi-pet shampoo, a natural shampoo for both dogs and cats that is good for the skin because it cleans, conditions and moisturizes. It is also anti-fungal and anti-yeast. It can also improve the health and appearance of red-stained paws, due to licking. Epi-Pet.com

Safety Tip 4
Caddy much promotes safety
Organize all your grooming products and tools in a caddy to save time and prevent Fido or Felix from being left in the tub or sink alone. Additionally, turn off the cell phone and close the door to avoid a wet pet running through the house and hanging out in places you don’t want a pet like a couch or a pet. Extract as much water from the pet’s coat with a microfiber towel. Wipe down floors and surface when done to avoid pet and human slip and fall accidents.
Safety Tip 5
